Question about combination feeding for my cat?

I want to switch my cat over to Wellness brand cat food instead of the crappy Cat Chow he’s eating now. I know that I should make the switch gradually and all that. On the Wellness website it says they recommend a combination of dry food and wet food and it has the recommended amount of each. My question is if you do the combination, do you mix the foods together or feed one in the morning and the other at night?

Actually, there is zero need to feed dry, I’m not sure why they suggest it. I feed canned food 3-4 times a day and it works great. Wellness dry is better than many dry foods but it is still dry food which can cause urinary and kidney issues.
